About Me

I’m Matthew Gorner, a dedicated psychotherapist with a Master’s degree in Psychosynthesis Psychology, and diplomas in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Psychosynthesis Counselling. My academic journey began with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts and Society, which ignited my passion for exploring the complex relationship between the individual and the societal context they exist within.

From my teenage years, I’ve been fascinated by psychology and philosophy. My desire to lead a life of meaningful contribution, coupled with a drive to support others on their journeys of self-discovery, naturally guided me towards psychotherapy. My interest in the inner critic emerged from the recurring themes I observed in my practice. I discovered a unique satisfaction in helping clients navigate this critical part of themselves, utilizing meditation, imaginative techniques, and dream exploration as tools.

My therapeutic approach is rooted in Psychosynthesis and Internal Family Systems therapy. These models resonate deeply with my philosophy that our problems and challenges are gateways to self-expansion. By encountering and overcoming these struggles, we get to grow beyond our former selves, cultivating a richer understanding of who we are and our place in the world.

I enjoy working with a diverse array of clients, but my specialty lies in supporting creatives and professionals. My clients often grapple with depression, anxiety, feelings of stagnation, and unfulfillment. Through our collaborative work, I’ve witnessed many overcome their struggles with their inner critic, progressing towards a more contented and fulfilling life.

What sets my practice apart is my unique blend of therapeutic approaches, combined with mindfulness and spiritual practices such as meditation. I believe in the transformative power of a holistic approach, merging traditional therapy with introspective practices, leading to profound personal breakthroughs.

My passion for this work extends from the professional to the personal. I, too, have navigated the tumultuous seas of an unquiet inner critic. My journey towards conscious listening and subsequent transformation of this part of myself into an ally has been one of my most rewarding experiences. I bring this personal understanding to my practice, enabling me to connect deeply with my clients’ experiences.

I invite you to embark on this journey of inner exploration with me. Together, we can transform the voice of your inner critic into a guide towards greater self-understanding, compassion, and personal growth.
